Quail Island - Otamahua

1.What does the name Otamahua mean?
Otamahua the place where children collect seabird eggs, it was also once known as "Te Kawakawa"

Where does the name come from?
 The name came from Captain William Mein Smith.

2.Where did the name Quail Island come from?
Europe

3.How big is the Island?
It is 80 Hectares

4.How was the Island created?
They build a small boat to ferry livestock and building materials to the island.

5. What wildlife is present on the island?
Animals like black-backed/Karroo, red-billed gull/Tupungato, white-flippered penguins/korora, terns, shags, oyster-catcher.
